Emotional support animals are supposed to provide support to people with anxiety, are becoming a problem for airlines. These are not service animals, like guide dogs for the blind, which have been trained to help people with disabilities, and are protected under the Disabilities Act. However, emotional support animals are not trained and do not perform a specific job. These animals can be allowed to accompany the owner if he has a letter from a mental health professional declaring that the animal is required for therapy (which is easy to obtain).
