Social Anxiety Is Different From Introversion Or Extreme Shyness
One Is Oriented To Inner Ideas And Imagination, While The Other Is Concerned About Social Acceptance
Social anxiety is different from introversion or shyness. Also, social anxiety is not defined as extreme shyness. Introvert people derive their energy into an inner world or ideas and imagination. On the other side, people with social anxiety are less interested in an inner world of ideas, and more interested about social situations, especially the situations in which they have to interact with other people, and fear the possibility of being evaluated negatively, socially rejected, and badly judged. Therefore, people with social anxiety are afraid of what opinion other people have about them because they fear that other people will have a bad opinion. They are concerned about social acceptance. Other difference is that introversion is a character trait while social anxiety is a development that can be worked out and reversed.
